Continuing Healthcare

Negotiation

Continuing Healthcare Funding is a key interface between the NHS and Social Care and is often the source of disputes between NHS Trusts and local authorities.  We were brought into analyse the relationship and specific cases between a local authority and the local NHS Trust.

The work involved analysis of the processes and evidence for decisions to set a foundation.  This work highlighted a number of cases that had seemingly been wrongly allocated to social care where health funding would be more appropriate.

We then worked to develop a process and to bridge the relationships to review these cases and negotiate a different funding settlement on behalf of the local authority.

The negotiation undertaken not only proven effective in the identified cases but set up a framework for the council to use on an ongoing basis to ensure the best funding settlements were negotiated for the benefit of residents in that area.
